Announcing a special enrollment period for those subject to the 2014 individual mandate penalty who have not yet enrolled via healthcare.gov. This is intended to address the fact that people do their taxes in March or April and find out that they will have to pay a penalty for not having had health coverage in 2014—they may want to correct this for 2015.
Applicants must meet the following conditions to apply during this period from March 15 to April 30:
Currently are not enrolled in coverage through the Marketplace/Healthcare.gov for 2015,
Attest that when they filed their 2014 tax return they paid the fee for not having health coverage in 2014, and
Attest that they first became aware of, or understood the implications of, the Shared Responsibility Payment after the end of open enrollment (February 15, 2015) in connection with preparing their 2014 taxes.
If you find yourself in this situation, you can get help with Marketplace (or Medicaid! Year-round) appointments from WHP staff at the Washtenaw Health Plan, by calling 734-544-3030 or at the Livingston County Public Health Department, by calling 517-546-9850.
Assistance is also available from the patient financial counselors at University of Michigan or St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
